The “Basic Life Support and Heimlich Maneuver Seminar,” organized by the Fırat University Nursing Society, was held on May 7, 2026, at the Conference Center of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Fırat University. The event, organized for Fırat University students, was attended by a large number of students from various faculties. Asst.Prof. Askeri Çankaya, ain the Department of Surgical Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences at Fırat University, served as a speaker at the seminar. As part of the event, students were provided with theoretical knowledge and practical training on first aid procedures.
The program included the following topics: “Definition and Importance of First Aid,” “Assessment of the Scene,” “Assessment of the Injured Person,” “What is Basic Life Support (BLS)?,” “Stages of Basic Life Support (Adult–Child–Infant),” “Heimlich Maneuver (Foreign Object Obstruction),” and “Questions and Suggestions.” During the training, students had the opportunity to practice basic life support and the Heimlich maneuver on mannequins.At the end of the event, a Kahoot quiz was conducted to assess the students’ knowledge levels. The student who placed first in the quiz was awarded a first aid kit.During the seminar, which drew significant interest from the students, the importance of correct and swift intervention in emergencies was emphasized, and attention was drawn to the life-saving role of having basic first aid knowledge.
