The Fırat University Faculty of Health Sciences and the Disability Life Application and Research Center organized an event titled "Living with Arthritis: World Arthritis Day" to raise awareness for World Arthritis Day, October 12th.
The event was held on October 14, 2025, at the Fırat University Hospital Congress Hall. Academicians, healthcare professionals, students, and individuals living with arthritis attended the event.
The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Gamze KIRKIL, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Hatice ERÖKSÜZ, Director of the Barrier-Free Life Application and Research Center. The speeches emphasized the impact of arthritis on individuals' quality of life, the importance of early diagnosis, and the need for multidisciplinary treatment approaches.
A musical concert following the opening remarks added an artistic atmosphere to the program.
During the scientific session, expert academics in their fields gave presentations on various aspects of arthritis. Prof. Dr. Süleyman Serdar KOCA emphasized the importance of teamwork in arthritis treatment in his presentation titled "Arthritis from a Physician's Perspective: The Key to a Multidisciplinary Approach." Assoc. Prof. Dr. Songül Bağlan Yentür emphasized the role of physical activity in disease management in her presentation titled "The Silent Medicine in Arthritis: Exercise." Nurse Aynur Gençoğlu addressed the effects of nursing care on the disease process in her speech titled "Strong Care, Healthy Living in Arthritis." Dr. Murat Açık shared the positive effects of healthy eating habits on arthritis symptoms in his presentation titled "Proper Nutrition in Arthritis: The Medicine on Your Plate." Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gürkan Gürak discussed the importance of psychological support for arthritis patients in his presentation titled "Arthritis and Mental Health: Psychological Support in Arthritis."
One of the highlights of the program was the "Arthritis from the Patient's Perspective" session, where arthritis patients shared their own experiences. This session shared the process and coping strategies of individuals struggling with the disease with the attendees.
As part of the event, a "Marbling Art Workshop for Patients" was held to highlight the contribution of art to the therapeutic process.
The program was moderated by Research Assistant Betül ERGÜN.
The event, which attracted considerable interest from participants, concluded with information sharing and awareness messages.
