May 5 World Midwives Day was celebrated with a meaningful ceremony organized in cooperation with Fırat University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Midwifery and Midwifery Student Community. On May 7, 2025 at Prof. Dr. Bahaddin Ögel Conference Hall, midwifery students wore their white coats, the symbol of their professional identity journey.

The ceremony started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem. The opening speeches were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Evrim Çelebi, Head of the Department of Midwifery, Faculty of Health Sciences, Fırat University, and Prof. Dr. Gamze Kırkıl, Dean of the Faculty. In their speeches, the importance of the midwifery profession in the health system, the contribution of midwives to the society and the strengthening of professional awareness were emphasized.

Then Dr. Lecturer. Prof. Dr. Serap Öner made a presentation titled “The Importance of Wearing a Uniform in Midwives' Gaining Professional Identity”. Öner stated that the uniform is not just a garment; it is a strong symbol of professional responsibility, belonging and dedication.

In the apron-wearing ceremony that followed, 1st and 2nd year midwifery students took the first step on their professional journey by wearing their white aprons with great excitement and pride. The ceremony ended with the intense interest and applause of the participants.

Representatives from Fethi Sekin City Hospital and Fırat University Hospital, our external stakeholders, also participated in the event, strengthening the academia-field cooperation and expressing their support for the students.

On this meaningful day, which gave hope and inspiration to the midwives of the future, both the foundations of professional identity were laid and the social importance of the midwifery profession was once again emphasized.
